CHANDIGARH: Many students from the city who got distinction in CBSE class X exams, managed it in the face of heavy odds associated with financial difficulties.
His father unloads luggage in the army cantonment and he has secured 90.6% in class X CBSE exams. Arun Kumar of GMSSS-33 has done his parents proud by scoring well amidst adversity. Despite constant pressure from his father for tuitions, he never took any.

���I think self-study with full concentration is the best form of preparation,��� said Arun.
���I had difficulties while commuting, the school being far from my home and besides, there was hardly any atmosphere conducive to studies. Children there are not so keen on studies,��� he said, referring to village Darya, Chandigarh, where he stays.
This young lad wishes to be an architect. ���I would take loan or sell my property if the need so arises to give my son proper higher education,��� said his father Davinder Singh.
Komal Deep, another student of GMSSS-33, has secured 93.4% in CBSE matric exams. She feels regular studies and paying attention to what was taught in the class helped him a great deal while preparing for the examination. Daughter of Fauja Singh, a head constable in Punjab Police,
Komal wants to join National Defence Academy. Her grandfather being in the Indian Army, she says serving the nation is in her genes.
Laxmi Nayak of Government Model Senior Secondary School-33, who has scored 91%, said she didn���t take tuitions because she never felt the need for them. Daughter of a stenotypist in a private company, this bright girl dreams of doing social service by becoming a doctor. ���I would go for the medical stream,��� she said. She thinks extra facilities like laptops, ipods and mobiles are not necessary to get good marks in exams. ���What matters is hard-work and practice because that is what leads to perfection,��� she added.
Amit Singh of St John���s High School has scored 85.8% in CBSE matric exams. His father is a cook in the school. Amit said his school supported him through-and-through. His fee was partially exempted. This intelligent lad is looking forward to opting for commerce and wants to pursue an MBA. Hard-work and paying proper attention in class are his mantras for success.
